Great spot to find quality tradies easily

At Service Central we're always on the lookout for renovation stories - especially successful ones. Interesting to find this one - the story of the massive renovation that went so horribly wrong. But we also know that it's not just your big renovations that you need to take care with choosing your business - it's all jobs of all sizes.

And that's why we built Service Central. Amanda recommends that you get several quotes, and that you talk to previous customers before…

Pre-reno colour visuals

Hi Amanda

I was just listening to you on 702 ABC, & heard a caller mention issues she was having with visualising colours for her house.

I'm a graphic designer in Drummoyne in Sydney & I do this for my clients using Photoshop with fantastic, 95% true representations of the finished product.

I provide a service that includes either the client or myself taking photographs of the house or area to be renovated, then discussing their colour options they want… Continue

Consumer Protection

It is now six (6) years after my hose should have been complete. I have had to spent $65,000 on legal costs and appoximately $75,000 on rent as the house cannot be given an occupancy certificate. The Home Warranty Insurer estimates the cost of repair at $167,500.

Fair Trading negotiated a settlement with the insurer. Even if it was the maxmum under the policy it wouldonly be $200,000.

So the situation I am in is that after repaying money borowed for legal costs and rent I… Continue

THE RENOVATION SURVIVOR COMMUNITY - what it's all about

A place for renovators to share dreams, problems, questions and information - without boring their friends! (By the way - if you're wondering why the GOOGLE ads now appear - it's because I've stopped paying for the premium service that keeps them away. But I don't get a cent from that advertising - honest!)

After I finished the six-year epic my renovation became, I sat down and wrote a book about it. I was determined not to let my builder off scot-free and I wanted to help other people avoid the same mistakes I'd made. (You can find out more about The Renovator's Survival Guide. here.)

I'm sure you're thinking disaster could never happen to you, but if you're about to start your renovation, in the middle or tearing your hair out as it all goes pear-shaped, you'll be wanting help. Why not share your stories and questions here. You may find some answers - and survive your renovation intact!
